Having a blog takes commitment, time to build and without traffic it can be a lonely uphill struggle. Implement these tricks to increase blog traffic on your site.

So you’ve got your blog running, but you are waking up day after day to no traffic. What has gone wrong? This is a common complaint for many web site owners. Below are ten methods you can implement to increase blog traffic.

There are many methods to apply to increase blog traffic. Two mistakes that newbie bloggers will make, for example, is not providing top notch quality posts and not spending time building relationships. Without good content, there is not much reason for people to hang around, and without relationship building, people aren’t so likely to return.

Here are some actions to take that will improve your traffic flow.

1. Good content takes time to research and to write. Build time into your weekly to do list for this purpose.

2. Spend time networking. This can be done via social networking tools such as LinkedIn or Facebook. Alternatively you can network by commenting on other blogs. By adding pertinent and relevant comments that add value, you can build up a presence on other blogs in your niche and the readers of your comments will click on your link. If they don’t, you have at least built a back-link to your site, to help with your search engine marketing.

3. Offer free giveaways. Again, these need to be of good content that people want to read. The best giveaways provide unique and useful information that cannot be found elsewhere. You can create this content by running a survey, by offering your unique opinion on your industry (stay polite).

4.Learn about SEO. Yes, Search Engine Optimization takes time. It’s not even so much the application of it. It needs to be learned, then you need to stay on top of the latest changes and methods, as it isn’t something static with Google changing their ranking criteria at least a couple of times a year. This is essential to increase blog traffic.

5. Apply SEO. This might mean optimizing graphics, titles and tags on your blog. Spend time researching each keyword up front for the best results. Use Search Engine Optimization plug-ins and URLs to aid your blog in getting found.

6. Invite guest posters. Guest bloggers will often pull some of their own audience over to your blog for their post. If you invite bloggers from your niche, you will have access to the same market.

7. Don’t advertise. By adding adverts all around your blog, it can often lower the tone. Wait until you have a popular blog until you start adding them.

8. Keep comments closed. That is until you have got several RSS subscribers and regular readers. Nothing looks more sad and lonely than a blog without any comments. Keep your anonymity private until you are popular.

9. Share as much as you can. This might even mean revealing some of your own business secrets. The more you share, the more you will be rewarded with links and traffic.

10. Write pillar posts. These are the posts that really are worthy of getting a lot of attention. Perhaps a major list or a post that describes step-by-step procedure on how to do something. These are generally unique and take more than an hour to create. Make the most of them by bookmarking them on Digg and promoting them on your social networking accounts.

Facebook has an extensive platform on which you can build unique Facebook pages and interact with your online community to generate the best possible results. Below are some tips to help improve your Facebook marketing:

1. Be Unique Not Generic – There is a lot of competition on Facebook, virtually regardless of the type and topic of content that you’re providing. Ensure your Facebook page really stands out by creating a unique design. You don’t have to have the standard Facebook page design and you can implement all sorts of features that help your visitors recognize you as a leader in your field.

You can also serve different landing pages to different visitors. For example, fans and first time visitors to your page do not need to see the same thing and Facebook offers the functionality to change these settings. Show a page that encourages non-followers to fan your page, and show the main content to those that have already done so. Offer incentive such as coupons for your products or services, or free resources like Ebooks and other giveaways, to members that have not yet clicked to follow your page.

2 . Use Giveaways – Giveaways have long been and continue to be one of the most effective branding and promotional techniques there is. Ebooks, gift items, and coupons are just some of the Facebook-specific items you can offer to those that are willing to sign up for your Facebook fan page. You can offer regular giveaways to members to ensure that people follow you over time and as an extra incentive for becoming what is essentially a subscribed member of your fan page.

3. Use Competitions – Competitions can generate even more buzz than a giveaway. If you place a financial value on each of your fans then you can calculate a decent prize to give away. It could be one of your own products or services or something relating to one of your partners. Make sure that it is related to the content you offer as well as the products or services that you promote. Competitions can go viral too, so encourage your readers to spread the word with their friends – you can even build this in to the competition by offering extra prize draw entries for each friend referred to your page.

4. Get Personal – Facebook is first and foremost a social network. The fact that it can also be used to help promote your business is an added benefit but users are predominantly on the site because it allows them to connect with others and hunt down content that they are interested in. It is, therefore, a personal experience and your readers will for the most part want to believe that they are dealing with real people. Add a large photo to your Facebook page.

5. Say Thanks – A little “thank you” can go a LONG way. As soon as somebody becomes a fan send them an unobtrusive message thanking them for becoming a fan and welcoming them to the fold. The message doesn’t need to be long and it can be automated, but remember, people buy people, so a little personal touch will go a long way!

6. Don’t Give Up – Don’t be surprised if your Mom and your Sister are your only fans after a few days of adding content and personalizing your page. It does take effort to develop a high quality Facebook fan page. Keep posting, keep updating, keep testing, keep evolving, and keep trying – don’t’ give up!

Foursquare has added two heavily requested features to its popular app that will make the service significantly more social: photos and comments.

These new features allow users to attach photos to check-ins, tips and venues, and add comments to the check-ins of their friends. These social updates will also get enmeshed within the rest of a user’s Foursquare activity and included on his or her history page.

With the new photos feature, Foursquare users will be prompted to add one as they check-in, in much of the same manner that they are already prompted to add a “shout” with each check-in. Users can then continue to add photos after they check-in that will be added to the check-in detail page – where comment activity happens.

The new photos and comments features will stay mostly contained to a user’s immediate circle of friends. Photos associated with check-ins will only be visible to a user’s Foursquare friends and the other social networks that he or she shares them with. Comments, however, will only be viewable by a user’s Foursquare friends.

Is there any real value in Social Media for my Business? Whether you like it or not, today and in the future social media marketing is, and will be, an important component for all businesses.

Whether you are a bricks and mortar business or an online Internet-based business, chances are your sales will go up if you are marketing your business online. There are many offline businesses that can effectively leverage social media to strengthen and grow their businesses in creative and effective ways. It’s about thinking outside the box.

Most importantly, your social media marketing strategy must fit in with your overall business Marketing Plan. Many of the popular social media websites engage prospects and customers, increase the awareness and popularity of your business and inevitably boost your sales.

If you are serious about taking your business into the 21st century, then you will need to embrace social media. There are many ways that businesses can use social media to their advantage. Here are just a few:

Be Present and Become and Expert:
The first step is to create your profiles on the various social media websites and then update them on a regular basis. You will need to check your accounts a couple of times a week to respond to comments from your followers. This a great way to build presence, to be seen as an expert and to build relationships with your followers. The more you update and are seen to be interactive with your followers, the stronger your business’s reputation will be.

Educate Don’t Sell:
Social media marketing is another way to build relationships with people, prospects and customers that you may never have otherwise been exposed to. So make the most of it. In today’s market, consumers are getting smarter, plus we live a world of mass advertising. The last thing you want to do is sell your products and services on social media. It’s about educating your fans. Every once in awhile you might promote a workshop or special offer. Educate more, Sell less. If people want to find out more about you and your products and services, they can visit your website.

Get the Whole Company Involved:
If you have a staff, get them involved and task them to update your social media posts on a daily basis. This is an excellent morale booster and your staff’s involvement will strengthen your marketing effort and increase your business’s online exposure.

Encourage People to Join You on Social Media:
Ask people to “Like” your social media pages. You can promote social integration on your business receipts, signs, email marketing, brochures and invoices so that your existing customers will want to jump on the social media train as well. You can also ask your customers to check in to Foursquare or one of the other geo-location sites once they arrive in the general proximity of your store, offering them special promotions to entice them to come in.

Keep an Eye on Your Competitors:
Social Media is a great medium to keep an eye on your competitors and stay ahead of the game. It is a great way to research whether your competitors are offering special promotions, how active they are on social media, who is following them and what they are saying. Always remember to stay on top of what your competition is doing by reading everything that they post. Remember that you and other businesses are always fighting to stay on top.

Become a Community:
People want to feel like they belong to something i.e. a community. This is your job and social media provides a perfect platform for this. People are more likely to buy from people They Know, They Like, and They Trust. The way to achieve this is by having live events at your store as well as events online. Promote special offers, give advice and Be There for your community.

Start Small:
If you don’t have any help in managing your social media accounts and you try to do it all by yourself, you may find that you aren’t doing it well or at all. Start with one and get comfortable with that. Make sure that you go for quality over quantity.

Listen and Learn:
Are you aware of what your existing customers and potential customers are saying about your business, products and services, and brand? Pay special attention to the comments that people are posting online. It is also a good idea to set up Google alerts and to immediately handle issues as they occur. This is your chance to show people how much you care about them. Help them to solve their problems and address whatever concerns they have. Generally people are okay if a mistake is made, as long as you resolve it.

Be Patient:
It takes time to see significant results with social media marketing when it comes to the success of your business. Remember that your hard work will definitely pay off and the more relationships you build and the more you interact with others, the more interested other people will be in connecting with you again and again. It’s also important to remember that social media does provide a means for you to connect with people you might otherwise never have had the opportunity to meet.

Giveaways:
You can use social media to give away free products from your store. This is guaranteed to attract attention. People will want to interact with you and will want to be the first to know when you introduce new products and services. Be careful, however, of not over doing the promotion and competitions.

Are you currently managing a blog and are looking for ways to generate more blog traffic and increase interactions? Below are twelve quick ways to generate a flow of non-stop blog traffic:

1. Create Great Content
This goes without saying, but your content needs to educate, entertain, inspire or offer a solution to your readers’ problems. You will want to try to accomplish at least one of these tasks with every blog post.

2. Keep Your Posts Short
We are living in an age where short attention spans are the norm. Keep your posts under 500 words so that you don’t lose your ADD readers.

3. Get Your Blog Indexed in Technorati
This is the big daddy of all blog catalogs. Make sure that you go through the very simple process of submitting your blog RSS feed to Technorati.

4. Submit Your Blog Feed to Other Top Blog Catalogs
Blog catalogs and RSS feed catalogs are where readers go to find blogs to read. You want to make sure that your blog is there. To make the process even easier, you can use a service such as SubmitINMe to manually post to the catalogs for you.

5. Entice Your Readers to Subscribe to Your Blog
Offer your readers a free goodie (such as a downloadable ebook, whitepaper, audio class, etc.) if they subscribe to your blog.

6. Let Your Social Networks Know About New Posts
Whenever you post to your blog, Tweet it out to your followers, update your LinkedIn status and let your Facebook friends and fans know about it. If it’s a good post, they will pass it on to their community as well.

7. Get Involved in the Blog Community
Blogging is a social activity. Read other blogs, comment on other blogs and refer to other blogs within your own blog posts.

8. Comment Back
When your readers make comments on your blog, make sure that you comment back to them. You want to encourage a natural back and forth dialogue between you and your readers.

9. Participate in a Blog Carnival
A blog carnival is a blog event that it is dedicated to a particular topic and is published either weekly or monthly. Each edition of a blog carnival is in the form of an article that contains links to other blog posts on that particular topic. Blog carnivals can be a wonderful way to produce awareness around your blog. Read the rules and regulations of the blog carnival and get involved.

10. Offer to Write a Blog Post for a High-Traffic Blog
Research various blogs within your particular industry. Read the blogs, comment on the blogs and interact with the blogger. Once you’ve established a relationship, send them an email politely letting them know that you would be willing to be a guest blogger for them at any time in the future. Include a link to your own blog so that they can check out the quality of your work.

11. Use Your Blog Posts in Your Ezine
Instead of writing a brand new article for your weekly ezine or newsletter, send out the first few paragraphs of one of your past blog posts. Then include a link for the reader to continue reading the post on your blog.

12. Include Your Blog URL in Your Email Signature
Develop an email signature that you use whenever you send an email. Of course, your email signature should include a link to your blog.

Facebook has begun to let brands claim community Pages as their own, something that was previously a significant issue for many organizations.

While companies cannot claim an unlimited number of community pages as their own, this is a great feature for brands who had numerous community Pages that weren’t under their control. Over the weekend we saw a number of Help pages on Facebook confirming that brands could merge up to five community Pages into their own Page, however those help pages have since disappeared. Despite the temporary removal of the help pages, we’ve since visited community Pages and have confirmed that they can be claimed.

All you need to do is visit a community Page that has used your brand name and click on the link at the bottom which states “Is This Your Page?” After clicking, you will be brought through a verification process to confirm that you are truly the owner of the Page. While we haven’t gone through the process completely yet, I’m sure there are plenty of brands that are looking to claim community pages. The help page previously stated the following, regarding the approval process:

Once you have submitted the request to merge the Community Page(s) to your authenticated Page, Facebook will review your request and verify that the merge request is for two similar entities. For example, the Community Page for Nike could merge with the authenticated Nike Page, but a merge request for Nike Basketball or Nike Shoes to merge to the general Nike Page would not be approved.

Please keep in mind that the review process may take a few days, and that we may contact you if we need additional information. If we approve the request, anyone who has “Liked” the Community Page(s) will be combined and connected to your authenticated Page.

We’ll be sure to post updates as we hear more about the community page claiming process!

When someone speaks about viral marketing or viral advertising they are referring to marketing techniques that use a variety of social networks or similar vehicles to increase product awareness and sales. In effect, modern methods of promotion on the Internet are really just updated versions of old fashioned word of mouth advertising. However, the wide variety of methods available, combined with the huge amount of activity on the Internet, make this form of advertising extremely powerful.

Viral Marketing can be a very effective and inexpensive way to create exponential growth and quickly increase visibility. If implemented properly, a viral advertising campaign can reach tremendous numbers of potential customers at a low cost and in a short period of time. As the name implies, it relies on spreading information among people who interact with each other.

The primary concept behind viral promotion entails delivering subject matter concerning your specific campaign to a portion of a group of persons who can in turn relay the message to other people in that same group. To put it differently, the primary desire here is to have his promotional material become contagious in a manner that it will be circulated to other people by those it originally was introduced to. In this process, the marketer will be able to reach a broader number of people without enduring the price related to contacting every last one of those people individually.

This operation commences by directing a message to those with a degree of social networking potential. These are the people who frequently spend time in parts of the Internet where acquired data is commonly shared with others who get together there. The most elementary instances would be the assorted social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter.

After content which people find notable is put up on these sites, it is then plausible to circulate it to other people throughout the same system.

In the ideal situation, the following group of those receiving the content will pass it to more people who might forward it on once more. As this advances, an extensive total of viable purchasers could see the information that was shown to a comparatively modest percentage of the population of that particular social network. It is likewise possible for an ad of striking interest to be put across to yet some other network, speeding up the viral outcome to an even greater extent.

Most commonly, viral advertising is introduced in the form of text messages at social networking sites such as MySpace, Digg or Twitter. In some cases the same effect can be gained by simple emails that request the receiver to forward the message on to others. However, some of the advertising campaigns have become very sophisticated and take the form of videos, interactive games or software applications.

The basic requirement to any effective viral effort of every kind embodies distributing something that is sufficiently fascinating to cause consumers to mention it to other people that they expect might also be curious about that specific content. Attempting to distribute items which are old or too common is seldom effectual in viral selling. A product or service that is recent or singular will experience a better probability of being commented about and referred through people in that system to additional prospects. Items that are excessively common are merely ignored.

As with every other kind of World Wide Web marketing, viral advertising should be employed with sophistication. When it is submitted well, it could significantly grow traffic to an Internet site by being transmitted from computer to computer. It should be utilized cautiously, because, as with conventional word of mouth promoting, whenever it is done badly it could estrange buyers and impact the reputation of the entire enterprise.
